MEET SOME OF OUR BUTTERFLIES

HISTORY & MISSION

On July 20, 1990, THE ASSOCIATION became a certified member of the International Association of the Lupus Foundation of America. In September 1990 it became a charity. In 2012 the Association lost their beloved president Marget Wade. The Bermuda Lupus Association (“Association”), a registered charity, suffered the loss of their long standing president two years ago, resulting in the temporarily cease of operation while everyone mourned her lost. As of October 2014 the Association has begun to raise awareness of Lupus on the island by providing an educational resource and support to individuals affected by lupus on the island. In the past few months we have done the following:

•            Golf Tournament with Cedarbridge National Honor Society
•            Provided Social Events (i.e. fun golf and bowling)
•            Established a Facebook page providing information through a social media outlet
•            Provided brochures on lupus to doctors’ offices
·             Provide newsletters to our general mailing list

The primary purpose of the Association is to provide educational and emotional support to Lupus patients, family members and friends. Furthermore, the Association seeks to increase awareness and educate the general public and health professionals in Bermuda about Lupus. Since we have restarted the Association, we have been able to assist a young lady in high school by educating the school on how the lupus affects her and what amendments maybe required to ensure she is successful in her studies.

In addition, there appears to be a number of people who have been recently diagnosed that we have reached out to and provided support and educated them in ways to cope with the day to day activities.
